Engineer's Week 2017

Sincere thanks and grateful appreciation to M.J McNulty who came to our school to celebrate Engineer’s Week 2017. M.J delivered a fascinating account of his role as an electronic engineer at Valeo in Tuam, Co. Galway. M.J. showed us an array of circuit boards, parking cameras, schematic drawings, printed circuit boards, the camera lens (correctly known as the ‘fish eye’), the E.C.U, the microprocessor, the multi-metre (which measures voltage across batteries) and the oscilloscope. His wonderful presentation has certainly inspired many of our pupils to be engineers of the future! Here are some of the things we learned:

·                     A parking camera/sensor for a car has up to 1,000,000 pixels

·                     A human eye has up to 376,000,000 pixels

·                     Valeo make parking sensors for Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi & Porsche

·                     Valeo make more than 1000 cameras per day

·                     There are different types of engineers = Electronic, Mechanical, Software & Civil, to mention but a few

M.J also shared his knowledge about branch exchanges and ventilators. Children were captivated by his account.
